The Silent Crisis in Our Communities

Food insecurity is often the first step toward housing instability. According to the USDA, veterans are 7.4% more likely to struggle with hunger than civilians.
In the regions we serve, the need is urgent:

• Northeast Florida (Duval, Nassau, St. Johns): Up to 9,300 veterans in our area face hunger every day.

• Las Vegas (Clark County): Veterans make up nearly 12% of the homeless population, fighting for survival on the streets.

Why Nutrition is "Mission-Critical"

Food isn't just fuel; it’s a tool for recovery. USDA research shows that high-quality nutrition is essential for:

1. Mental Clarity: Malnutrition impairs the focus needed to navigate VA benefits and housing applications.

2. Physical Healing: Proper protein and nutrients are vital for veterans recovering from service-related injuries.

3. Long-Term Stability: Healthy food prevents chronic illness, keeping veterans out of the ER and in their homes.

The Quality Gap

It’s not just about calories—it’s about dignity. Veterans often have lower-quality diets due to the high cost of fresh food. We are working to bridge that gap by providing fresh, nutrient-dense meals that respect their service.

Looking Ahead: Operation Nourish

While housing remains our primary fight, we are preparing a new frontline weapon: Operation Nourish.
Launching in Spring 2026, this mobile initiative will bring chef-prepared, healthy meals directly to veterans at our Hands for Restoration events. Stay tuned for a "first look" inside our new food truck!
